Decide what kind of help you need.
The OwLet offers information about writing for specific subjects and classes and about researching online--both on the Web and through our library databases. The central feature of the OwLet is the Get Help from an Online Tutor page. By completing the form on this page, you can send a piece of writing you are struggling with directly to an online tutor. Our goal is to respond to every student submission within 48 hours! Additionally, the OwLet offers interactive grammar and usage tutorials designed to help you improve your writing skills.
Know your learning style.
As we developed the OwLet, we tried to present content in ways that specifically target auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles. If you've never identified your preferred learning style, take a few moments to take the VARK inventory sponsored by the Active Learning Site. Once you complete a brief online questionnaire, you can submit the form to discover your preferred learning style. Be sure to check out the study strategies link once the site identifies your learning style. These strategies will be very helpful to you in all of your academic and professional work.In some sections of the OwLet, especially in the grammar and usage tutorials, you'll see icons which represent each of the four major learning styles:
Whenever you see an icon that represents your learning style, mouseover the icon to view information specific to your learning style. Mouseover these icons for an example.
