Who are the OwLet tutors?
OwLet tutors are LeTourneau University students who have completed English Composition 1 and 2 with a grade of B or better and have demonstrated excellent writing skills in all of their academic work. Tutors are trained in how to respond to student work.
Will anyone else see my writing?
The OwLet administrator, Mrs. Annie Olson, supervises tutorial responses to assure that students receive quality feedback. All writing sent in to the OwLet is considered confidential. Nobody else will see or hear about your OwLet submissions without your written consent.
What will the OwLet tutors do to help me?
OwLet tutors are not editors; we do not "fix" errors in student papers. Instead, we analyze student writing based on the following criteria:Tutors will make constructive suggestions on how you can make your writing better. For grammar and usage errors, tutors will point out patterns of error and refer you to the appropriate OwLet tutorial for help on how to fix them.
- Thorough, specific content development
- Structure, including introduction, thesis, transitions, topic sentences, and conclusion
- Style, including voice and diction
- Grammar, usage, and spelling
Who can use the Owlet?
Anyone connected to the Web can access the OwLet's information pages. Personal tutorial help is available to LeTourneau University students at all levels and in all programs of study. Although eventually we hope to make the OwLet available to prospective students, right now the OwLet tutors respond only to current LeTourneau students.
